Students who are interested in studying medicine (MBChB) at Auckland University in Central Auckland can apply through two different categories: undergraduate or graduate.
The most common one that students will apply to medicine from is the health sciences first year or biomedical science undergraduate pathway, which is predominantly for high school leavers in their first year of university study.
Admission into medicine is based on three admission requirements, your UCAT score, MMI Interview and GPA.

UCAT 15%

All students are interested in applying to medicine in their first year of university must complete the core papers within health science or biomedical science. Once you set all the necessary papers and courses, you then apply to medicine which if successful, will begin in your second year of university study.
The medicine programme is a total of 6 years including your pre-med year. In order to gain admission into the pre-med pathways, students must meet the university entry rank score requirements.

There are no subject requirements in order to enter into the pre-med pathway however it is highly recommended that students take NCEA level 3 Chemistry, Physics and Biology (or the equivalent) to help them prepare.
Students completing their pre-med year are required to take eight courses, of which four of them are the core papers that will be used as their academic merit for medical school admission.

Courses outlined in italics are compulsory courses but are not accounted for in your GPA for medical school.
You must enrol as a full-time student when studying BSc or BHSc first year.
You must enrol in the four core papers as your first attempt to be considered for the MBChB program.
First Year BSc and BHSc applicants must complete the UCAT exam. Your UCAT score weighs 15% of your medical school application. The final score is combined from all five sections:
First Year BSc and BHSc applicants must complete an MMI Interview. Your MMI Interview weighs 25% of your medical school application.
To be considered for an MMI Interview you need to achieve a minimum GPA of 6 (B+) across all core papers. Interview offers are released prior to the final grade of MEDSCI 142 are released, so an interim grade is used to assess the ranking of your GPA.

It is important to be well set up for your journey into Auckland’s medical school so start preparing early and plan ahead. Due to New Zealand only having two medical schools, it is an extremely competitive nature however MedView likes to promote a supportive, supportive and engaging environment.
We recommend that you start working hard in high school to achieve the entry requirements to get you into HSFY and take the recommended subjects, to establish a strong scientific foundation of knowledge prior to beginning your HSFY.
